Coppice Halifax – Bedroom Carpet

Published on March 30, 2009 by admin

A very special album, hinted at since Summer of 2008, has finally arrived for preordering. The first Coppice Halifax full-length recording since 2008’s tropical-overdose Ocean Lion, Bedroom Carpet brings a much different vibe to the table. Largely ambient but not without some very beat-based tracks, Bedroom Carpet is very warm and humid with lots of sleepy-eyed melodies blipping across a thin line of tape hiss. Written and recorded using only two drum machines, an old Casio keyboard and a four-track tape deck, this is some of my most cozy, playful and analogue music ever made. Very heavily influenced by records like Cylob’s “Cylobian Sunset“, Aphex Twin’s “Selected Ambient Works II” and the “Melodies From Mars” album, as well as things like Kinesthesia, Bochum Welt and even friends of mine Thisket and EOD. This record is currently at press, and will be released on no more than 100 copies in a jewel case with full-color printed artwork (much like Colortone was).  SHIPS ON OR BEFORE APRIL 20TH.

CO_RD Tapes: A new cassette imprint

Published on March 12, 2009 by admin

I’m happy to announce a brand new sub-label at Milieu Music: CO_RD Tapes! For years I’ve been obsessed with cassettes – recording on them, listening to certain albums on them, finding weird ones in thrift stores just to hear what someone put on there – and now I’ve finally started my own place for cassette-only releases.

CO_RD will specialize in rural psychedelic guitar music. Incredibly warm and buried in 10-acre reverbs, with field recordings that mirror the photos used on the covers and guitar playing that wouldn’t be out of place on a record like Sun White Sun or Of The Apple. Each tape will follow the format of 2 extended tracks, one per side, with a colorful photograph for the cover and a blue cassette with labels. Additionally, each release will be very strictly limited to only 25 copies.

At some point in the future, perhaps within the 2009 year, CO_RD may also begin releasing music by friends and artists I love to work with. Trades are welcome and anyone interested should simply get in touch!

As I write this, the first release is already out and almost sold out! Pictured on the left, Appalachian/White Deer is a stately beginning to what will expand into a very colorful project in 2009.
