Realism In The Recession

Milieu – Brittle Paper Cathedrals

Published on April 23, 2009 by admin

Since the completion of A Warm Wooden Hollow in 2006, this is the first ambient Milieu record in about three years. For fans of Of The Apple, Brother, or either Infraction release, Brittle Paper Cathedrals is sure to deliver.

Musically this material consists of three ’suites’ made up of clusters of separated tracks. Meandering (yet pretty) melodies and tones swirl around with barely any repetitions, and organ pedalbass-lines anchor the chord changes down beneath that. There’s also lots of crumbly textures and muted dynamics and even a few very straightforward organ melodies. Very sad and very distant, much like my previous ambient output. This one is limited to 100 copies, with hand-cut vintage cardstock patterns in jewel cases.

SEAS

Published on April 8, 2009 by admin

After a long Autumn and Winter of hibernation, EED has returned! Brian Grainger and David Tagg (the same names behind VCV and the Second Sun label) have crafted yet another sound to share with you: SEAS. Taking influences from artists like Rod Modell/Deepchord, Yagya and other minimal techno luminaries, Brian and David have recorded a deep ambient techno album under this name. Cool, airy and open, with field recordings of rolling waves and subtle blankets of white noise providing a calm backdrop to dubby synth stabs, sub-bass and punchy minimal drum programming. As if that wasn’t enough of a shock, we’ve pressed it on 12″ LP and CD-R as well! That’s right – the very first EED vinyl has arrived. Both formats contain exclusive music, so we’ve made it easy to get both by offering a “bundle” at a discounted price. For fans of Brian’s work as Coppice Halifax, as well as fans of minimal ambient techno in general – this is a must hear! Limited to only 100 LPs and 65 CD-Rs!
